Weep grieving mothers for babies infant cries
alone on the battlefield a brave soldier dies
Clutch each sacred memory near bruised broken heart
speak each one as history to generations apart
Reap the harvest bittersweet - sweat ripened, blood bought
sown in willing sacrifice - selfless, violent fought
Leap joyous citizens! Cry out! Shout! Proclaim!
lest freedom ring on tone deaf ears - to our ignorance and shame
Sleep oh nation under God in whom claim we to trust
your lot take not for granted for fear it turn to dust
Occasional musings and randomly profound utterances from a forty-something husband, father and child at heart.
