Nothing Gained

Though nimble his feet – gained he no ground
Though mighty his wings – great height ne'er found

Though strong his head – head strong, and fierce against the wind
Though his heart rapid beat – faint beat within

Though showered with gifts – unopened they did fall
Though bountiful his talents – deep buried all

Then came the autumn
Then came the snow
Then came the spring
Then came the glow

Though stubborn his feet – gained he much ground
Though weak his frail wings – great height he found

Though strong still his head – head strong no more
Though fainter heart beat – never louder did roar

Unwrapped the gifts – unveiled each one
And talents once buried – lifted up to the Son
